Gergeti Trinity Church
Set against the towering peak of Kazbegi, Gergeti Trinity Church is one of Georgia’s most breathtaking landmarks. Perched at 2,170 meters above sea level, it seems to hang between earth and sky. This 14th‑century cross‑domed temple served not only as a spiritual refuge but also as a fortress. Legend has it that during Mongol invasions, sacred treasures from Mtskheta’s Svetitskhoveli Cathedral were hidden here. Reaching it is an adventure—you hike up through the Dariali Gorge, slowly rising through mist or bright sunshine until the mountain church finally appears. Spring and autumn are the best times, when green meadows contrast with snow‑capped peaks. This place teaches you stillness.
