Mother of Kartli
The monument "Mother of Kartli" (also known as "Mother of Georgia") is one of the main symbols of Tbilisi, located on top of Sololaki Hill. The 20-meter statue, created by sculptor Elguja Amashukeli, was erected in 1958 to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the city. It depicts a woman in traditional Georgian national attire. The statue embodies the national character of the Georgian people: in her left hand she holds a bowl of wine, welcoming friends, and in her right hand — a sword, ready to defend the homeland from enemies.
