Tbilisi Ethnographic Museum
The Giorgi Chitaia Open Air Ethnographic Museum in Tbilisi is a true portal to Georgia’s past. Want to visit the homes of the Svan, Kakhetian, and Adjarian people without leaving the capital? Easy! Founded in 1966, the museum sprawls across 52 hectares on a hill near Turtle Lake, making it the largest museum of its kind in the Caucasus. The territory is divided into ethnographic zones, featuring over 70 authentic dwellings brought from every corner of Georgia. Step inside a darbazi – a traditional stone house with a unique 12 ‑ faceted wooden roof assembled without a single nail. Climb a Svan defensive tower, or admire the intricately carved wooden homes of western Georgia.
