1. Wine Country

Kakheti is the heart of Georgia’s wine industry, producing about 70% of the country’s wine.

Traditional winemaking methods (using qvevri – large clay jars buried underground) are still widely practiced.

2. Key Cities & Towns

Telavi – The administrative capital of Kakheti, with historic sites like the Batonis Tsikhe fortress.

Sighnaghi – A picturesque hilltop town with cobblestone streets, known as the "City of Love" and for its well-preserved defensive walls.

Kvareli – Famous for the Khareba Winery (tunneled into a mountain) and Kindzmarauli wine.

3. Historical & Cultural Sites

Alaverdi Cathedral (11th century) – One of Georgia’s tallest churches.

Gremi Citadel & Church – A 16th-century royal fortress.

David Gareja Monastery – A stunning cave monastery complex on the border with Azerbaijan (partly disputed).

Bodbe Monastery – Near Sighnaghi, believed to be the burial place of St. Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia.

4. Nature & Scenery

Tusheti Protected Areas – Remote mountainous landscapes (accessible only in summer).

Lagodekhi National Park – Hiking trails and waterfalls.

Gombori Pass – Scenic route connecting Kakheti to Tbilisi.

5. Food & Cuisine

Kakheti is famous for Churchkhela (walnut-filled grape candy), Khinkali (dumplings), and Mtsvadi (Georgian barbecue).

Try Badrijani Nigvzit (eggplant with walnut paste) and Shoti Bread (baked in a traditional tone oven).
