Traditional winemaking methods (using qvevri – large clay jars buried underground) are still widely practiced.

Telavi – The administrative capital of Kakheti, with historic sites like the Batonis Tsikhe fortress.
Sighnaghi – A picturesque hilltop town with cobblestone streets, known as the "City of Love" and for its well-preserved defensive walls.

Alaverdi Cathedral (11th century) – One of Georgia’s tallest churches.

David Gareja Monastery – A stunning cave monastery complex on the border with Azerbaijan (partly disputed).
Bodbe Monastery – Near Sighnaghi, believed to be the burial place of St. Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia.

Tusheti Protected Areas – Remote mountainous landscapes (accessible only in summer).
Lagodekhi National Park – Hiking trails and waterfalls.
Gombori Pass – Scenic route connecting Kakheti to Tbilisi.
5. Food & Cuisine
Kakheti is famous for Churchkhela (walnut-filled grape candy), Khinkali (dumplings), and Mtsvadi (Georgian barbecue).
Try Badrijani Nigvzit (eggplant with walnut paste) and Shoti Bread (baked in a traditional tone oven).

From Tbilisi: Kakheti is about a 2-hour drive (good for a day trip or weekend getaway).
Tours: Many wine tours include visits to multiple wineries and historic sites.
Best Time to Visit: Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) for wine harvest (Rtveli).
